The annual Bud Light Braggin’ Rights game between Missouri and Illinois has been a staple of the holiday season in college basketball, with both fan bases flocking to St. Louis to take in a game that generally doesn’t lack for intensity. That was the case Saturday afternoon, and in the final seconds of regulation Kim Anderson’s Tigers found themselves one stop away from forcing overtime.

Unfortunately for the Tigers, Illinois had the ball in the hands of redshirt senior guard Rayvonte Rice. The second of two ball screens gave Rice the defensive switch he could take advantage of, with power forward Johnathan Williams III being the Tiger standing in his way.

Rice (19 points) went with a stepback three that fell as time expired, giving Illinois the 62-59 victory. And after having lost four straight in the series, the Fighting Illini (who wore “Flying Illini” inspired throwbacks Saturday) have won two straight over their border rivals under John Groce.

UPDATE: Here’s a fan video of Rice’s game-winner from the ScottTrade Center. (video credit: Adam Mattingly)
