The Reading Eagle is reporting that Donovon Jack, a 6-9, 200-pound forward from Berks Catholic (Pa.), will be released from his letter of intent to play for Duquesne.

The Dukes hired former Long Island coach Jim Ferry on April 10 to replace Everhart, after Ferry led the Blackbirds to a 25-9 record and an NCAA tournament appearance.

Jack’s family reportedly met with Ferry before the decision to grant the release was handed down.

“The meeting went well,” Jack’s father, Curt, told the Eagle. “We had a good conversation, he explained his system and how he felt D.J. would fit into it, which was all good. We came out with information that was useful to us to start making a decision.”

Jack averaged 17 points and 10.1 rebounds per game this season, signing to play for then-coach Ron Everhart.

With his size, he has tools to make a contribution in a conference like the A-10, once he gets to the college level and continues to develop.

Before signing with Duquesne, Jack reportedly held offers from schools that included Delaware, Washington State, Fordham, DePaul, and Boston University.

Before Everhart’s firing, Duquesne had three players committed for the class of 2012, including Shasheed Davis, a two-star power forward from Ohio.

The Dukes finished 16-15, including 7-9 in the Atlantic 10.
