Cassius Stanley leaves game with leg injury (VIDEO)

Duke freshman Cassius Stanley suffered what appeared to be a non-contact injury to his left knee in the second half of Friday night’s game against Winthrop.

After missing an uncontested layup, Stanley fell to the floor in significant pain. He had to be helped to the bench and was carried off of the court without putting any weight on the leg.

Duke announced during the game that Stanley will not be returning, but after the game, Coach K told reporters that the doctors don’t believe Stanley suffered a knee injury.

“We thought his knee right away, he heard something pop. Strcuturally, based on what our doctors say right now, it’s not the knee,” Coach K said. “Something happened with his hamstring, that he heard pop. So it’s muscular. He’s getting an MRI [on Monday]. But we don’t think it’s a knee injury, which is very good.

“He’s gong to be out for a while. Hopefully, right after Christmas, that’s my hope.”

A 6-foot-6 freshman from California, Stanley entered Friday night’s game against Winthrop averaging 14.1 points and 5.3 boards while shooting 36 percent from three.
