Maryland will be without freshman center Chol Marial for at least three months.

The school announced on Tuesday that Marial will undergo surgery next week to repair a stress fracture in both of his legs. The recovery time is listed by the program as 3-4 months, and at the top end of that range, the 7-foot-2 Marial will be out until January.

“Chol battled through injuries over the last few years in high school and we are glad to find a resolution that will provide him with the proper medical care he needs,” Turgeon said. “Our top priority is ensuring Chol is able to not only return to the court, but lead a healthy life well beyond basketball. We are confident Chol will make a full recovery and look forward to his return.”

Marial is a four-star recruit and a native of South Sudan.
