Watch out for Maryland next season.
The Terps’ 2019-20 outlook got a major boost Wednesday when star point guard Anthony Cowan Jr. announced that he would withdraw from the NBA Draft and return to school.
“I’m coming back,” Cowan said in a video posted to social media.
It’s a serious boon to the coach Mark Turgeon and Co. to be solidified at point with Cowan, who averaged 15.6 points, 3.7 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game during his junior season. To have a senior at the helm of a talented but otherwise largely young team puts Maryland in contention in the Big Ten for next season, even with Michigan State likely the nation’s preseason No. 1 team.
Our own Rob Dauster puts Cowan in the All-American conversation and the Terps in discussion for a top-five preseason ranking of their own given the decision.
It’s a pretty good day for Maryland.
