Michigan State announced on Wednesday evening that junior guard Josh Langford will miss the rest of the season with the foot injury that has held him out of action for the last month.

“Josh has a stress injury that we caught fairly early and we had hoped that, with treatment and rest, he would recover,” head coach Tom Izzo said. “He has not, and will likely need surgery to prevent problems in the future.”

Langford had been averaging 16.0 points prior to the injury, third on the team, and was shooting 40.3 percent from beyond the arc starting at the two.

Michigan State has gone 7-1 in his absence, as Matt McQuaid, Aaron Henry and Kyle Ahrens have been asked to play bigger roles. That trio has been effective, and to date, the Spartans have been able to survive his absence.
