The star of the 2018 National Title game is no longer a collegian.

As expected, Villanova’s Donte DiVincenzo will be signing with an agent and remaining in the NBA Draft. The 6-foot-5 wing followed up a 31-point outburst in the final with a terrific showing in the combine, and he appears destined to be a first round pick come June 21st’s NBA Draft.

The news was first reported by Yahoo Sports.

The writing was on the wall for this decision when the Wildcats accepted a commitment from Albany grad transfer Joe Cremo.

We are still awaiting a decision from Omari Spellman, and while losing DiVincenzo will hurt -- there was a chance he could have been the preseason national player of the year -- there are players that can fill his void. Cremo is going to be a contributor at the Big East level and Phil Booth will be able to shoulder a heavier load offensively, while Jermaine Samuels has the potential to be a star for the Wildcats one day.

They have back court depth.

What they don’t have is another player that can do all of the things that Spellman can do, from protecting the rim to making threes to being able to rebound the ball. He is the piece that brings it all together.
