Nebraska will head into Big Ten play shorthanded.

The Huskers will be without Anton Gill after the junior suffered a ruptured patella tendon in practice over the weekend, the school announced Tuesday.

Rehab for Gill’s injury is expected to take 6-to-8 months, the school said.

Gill, a transfer from Louisville, was averaging 17.3 minutes per game for the Huskers, putting up 3.8 points and 1.9 rebounds per outing as his minutes had begun to recently increase having played at least 18 minutes in four-straight games.

Tim Miles’ group has lost six of its last eight and is 6-6 on the season. It’s record could be minimized as five have come against UCLA, Virginia Tech, Clemson, Creighton and Kansas, but a loss Dec. 18 at home to Gardner Webb makes the Huskers’ position heading into Big Ten play especially tenuous.

The start of their conference slate isn’t overly difficult, though it starts with away games at Indiana and Maryland before Iowa and Northwestern visit Lincoln.
