Syracuse picked up a solid 71-50 win over Monmouth on Friday night as freshman forward Taurean Thompson had the best game of his young college career.

The 6-foot-10 Thompson finished with 12 points and scored in a few different ways as he looked like a potential rotation player for the Orange if he can shore up his defense. But Thompson landed awkwardly on his left foot after making a play and left the win early.

According to a report from Donna Ditota of Syracuse.com, Thompson will receive precautionary X-rays as they look at his left foot and ankle to make sure there is no long-term damage.

Scoring in double-figures in his last two games, Thompson has put up 22 points over his last 31 minutes as he’s been productive off the bench for the Orange. Syracuse didn’t play the toughest competition in those games, but Thompson seems to be at least prepared to earn some minutes during ACC play.

Hopefully Thompson landed the wrong way and quickly recovers because he’s been a pleasant surprise to watch among a strong freshman class.
