One day after a season-opening win over Colgate, Syracuse got a victory on the recruiting trail.
OShae Brissett, a four-star power forward, announced his verbal commitment to Syracuse during halftime of New York Knicks-Toronto Raptors game. Brissett is a Canadian prospect currently playing at the Athlete’s Institute in Ontario.
He becomes the first commit in Syracuse’s incoming class. He’ll be one of two new freshman forwards on the frontline for the Orange, as Matthew Moyer is redshirting this season after injuring his right foot in August, which limited his time during the preseason.
The Syracuse frontcourt is pretty deep this season, but could look a whole lot different by the fall of 2017. Dajuan Coleman and Tyler Roberson will both exhaust their eligibility at season’s end, while Tyler Lydon could bolt for the NBA Draft where he is projected as a first round pick, according to DraftExpress.com.
Taurean Thompson and Paschal Chukwu, two expected holdovers for next season, will form the frontcourt with the two freshman forwards.
According to Mike Waters of the Syracuse Post-Standard, Brissett also considered Memphis, Oregon and USC.
