The NCAA is forcing Syracuse to vacate 101 wins, spanning across several different seasons.
We knew that. We also kew that some of those vacated wins included the improbable 2006 Big East Tournament championship run, orchestrated by Gerry McNamara, as well as the 2011-12 season, which saw the Orange win 34 games.
On Friday, Chris Carlson of Syracuse.com reported that the Syracuse media guide for this season has identified ineligible players, putting asterisks next to the names of Terrence Roberts, Billy Edelin, Mookie Jones, Dion Waiters and Fab Melo.
“Most of them were about tutoring,” Boeheim said during an interview on The Doug Gottlieb Show. “Most but not all. One was a speech for $300 where the money was re-paid but not re-instated. That one was 45 games. … The (drug policy) has nothing to do with any of the games.”
While Boeheim did not mention Roberts by name, and those details were not included in the NCAA report, the situation matches the forward. Roberts played in 45 vacated wins and missed two due to a knee injury during the 2005-06 and 2006-07 seasons.
Roberts and Edelin were ineligible due to payments, while the Orange also vacated wins from 2010-12 due to academic issues surrounding Jones, Melo and Waiters.
It’s a lengthy piece, which includes quotes from Roberts, as well as a photo of the media guide with asterisks next to the names of Jones, Melo and Waiters in the 2010-11 stat sheet. Click here to read the rest.
