Wichita State nearly surrendered a lead that was as large as 22 in the second half to Division II Augusta on Saturday afternoon at Koch Arena.
The Shockers were able to hold off the Jaguars, 73-67, behind the stellar play of big man Shaq Morris. The 6-foot-8 junior allowed fans to breath a sigh of relief after he cleaned up a missed three from Conner Frankamp with a one-handed, putback jam.
Morris ended with 24 points and seven rebounds in 21 minutes off the bench for Gregg Marshall. He was a big reason why the Shockers tripled the Jaguars in points in the paint.
But how about Augusta’s Keshun Sherrill?
The 5-foot-9 redshirt junior posted this stat line: 33 points (6-of-12 from three), three rebounds, four assists (one turnover) and a pair of steals.
The Shockers officially begin the post-Ron Baker/Fred VanVleet era on Friday at home against South Carolina State.
