WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) Purdue coach Matt Painter has suspended sophomore guard Ryan Cline for the first three games of the season.

In a statement issued by the athletic department, Painter said Cline would sit out for violating team rules. Painter added that players are expected to abide by a set of standards.

Cline will miss Tuesday’s exhibition game against Southern Indiana, a closed scrimmage this weekend against West Virginia and the season opener Nov. 11 against McNeese State.

He is expected to play a bigger role this season after averaging 3.9 points and shooting 38.5 percent from 3-point range in 35 games last season.
