Omer Yurtseven has been suspended by the NCAA for nine games, N.C. State has announced. He also will have to repay $1,000 to a charity of his choice. Yurtseven is a freshman center for the Wolfpack by way of Turkey, where he earned money playing for a professional team.

“I’m disappointed for Omer,” said NC State men’s basketball head coach Mark Gottfried. “He has been patient and 100 percent forthright. We will adapt and integrate him in as soon as possible”

Getting Yurtseven eligible is huge for the Wolfpack. He’s a projected first round pick that can rebound, score in the post and hit a jumper. He should thrive playing alongside a point guard like Dennis Smith Jr.

The seven-footer will essentially miss the first semester of games. He’s eligible to return to the lineup for a Dec. 15th matchup with Appalachian State, meaning that he will not be available for the meat of N.C. State’s non-conference schedule but that he will have four games and nearly three weeks to adjust to the college game before ACC play kicks off.
