Fresno State was tasked with replacing Marvelle Harris and his 20.7 points per game this season.

Karachi Edo, a 6-foot-6 forward who averaged double figures last season, was set to help offset the production of Harris, as well as the team’s leading rebounder Torren Jones.

However, Edo will miss the first half of the 2016-17 season after failing to reach NCAA eligibilty standards, according to Robert Kuwada of the Fresno Bee.

“He’s a great kid, a kid that takes his education very seriously,” Fresno State head coach Rodney Terry told Kuwada. “He had a setback last spring, but he’s turning it into a positive. He’s off to a great start this semester and he has every intention of graduating this spring.”

The Mountain West was a one-bid league last season, with the NCAA Tournament berth going to the Bulldogs. During that tournament run, Edo averaged 11.7 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.7 blocks per game.

NBC Sports projects the Bulldogs to finish seventh in the Mountain West this season.

Edo is eligible to return on Dec. 17 at Pacific, meaning he misses at least 10 games.
