Like Vince Carter in the 2000 Olympic Games, UAB senior guard Dirk Williams cleared a 7-foot Frenchman en route to a memorable dunk on Thursday night during the Blockingham dunk contest.
The 6-foot-5 Williams jumped over sophomore Thomas Smallwood, a native of Bordeaux, France, to shut down the midnight madness dunk contest.

Williams averaged 9.3 points and 3.9 rebounds per game in his first season with the Blazers.
Robert Ehsan is the new head coach at UAB after Jerod Haase left for Stanford. But the first-year head coach inherits a team that won 26 games last season and should contend for the Conference USA title again this season.
UAB is projected to finish first in the league this season.
