Fifteen high school recruits were in Lawrence for Kansas’ annual Late Night in the Phog on Saturday night. The following afternoon, the Jayhawks landed a commitment from one of the youngest prospects in attendance.

Markese Jacobs, a 5-foot-10 point guard from the Class of 2019, announced his verbal commitment via Twitter.

It’s always important to take commitments, especially ones this early in the process, with a grain of salt. We’ve seen over the years, that these verbals can fall through on both sides. Nonetheless, if both KU and Jacobs see this through until 2019, the Jayhawks have a promising, athletic point guard.

While this is certainly good news down the line, the program likely wanted to secure a commitment from one of the other visitors this weekend. According to Matt Tait of KUSports.com, six uncommitted seniors were among the more than 16,000 in attendance. Five-star recruits Trevon Duval, Billy Preston Jr., Troy Brown and Collin Sexton were all visiting, as were four-star prospects Tremont Waters and Cody Riley.
