KU’s Self releases presidential ad

Under Bill Self, Kansas has won at least a share of the last dozen Big 12 titles. Couple that with two Final Four appearances, and a national championship in 2008, and Self would win a Lawrence mayoral election in a landslide. Probably a gubernatorial race, too.

But Self is aiming for something bigger. That’s why on Friday, during the program’s annual Late Night in the Phog, Self announced his candidacy for president.

Bill Self’s skits have always been one of the must-see moments from the midnight madness events. In the past, he has parodied Will Ferrell movies, he’s raided Andrew Wiggin’s draft day closet and has convinced us he’s the most interesting man in the world, while simultaneously trolling the rest of the Big 12.

Like previous ones, Late Night in the Phog did not seem to disappoint on Saturday night. And I’m not just talking about Self’s video packages. According to Matt Tait of KUSports.com, six uncommitted seniors were among the more than 16,000 in attendance. Five-star recruits Trevon Duval, Billy Preston Jr., Troy Brown and Collin Sexton were all visiting, as were four-star prospects Tremont Waters and Cody Riley. That list doesn’t include the players from the Class of 2018 and ’19 who also took in the night’s festivities.

Kansas opens the season in Honolulu on November 11 against Indiana in the State Farm Armed Forces Classic.
