Florida Gulf Coast has done a nice job of remaining relevant in college basketball by recruiting the transfer market. Head coach Joe Dooley and the Eagles struck again this week as they were able to pull in Texas Tech transfer C.J. Williamson. A 6-foot-6 wing who hails from Florida, Williamson will have to sit out next season due to NCAA transfer regulations before gaining three more seasons of eligibility.
Williamson was granted his release from Texas Tech last week and had high-major programs in pursuit, so this is a really nice grab by Florida Gulf Coast. According to a story from Dana Caldwell of the Naples Daily News, Williamson was also considering Virginia Tech and he had been contacted by Ole Miss as well.
As a freshman, Williamson played sparingly for the Red Raiders as he averaged 1.8 points per game in 7.0 minutes per contest. While he might not have been an impact at Texas Tech, Williamson has a chance to be a major factor for the Eagles as he joins Michigan transfer big man Ricky Doyle as new Florida Gulf Coast additions who will have to sit out a year.
