Utah took a huge hit to its 2016-17 roster on Friday as sophomore forward Brekkott Chapman is looking to transfer. The combo forward was expected to compete for a starting spot next season as he averaged 4.4 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.0 assists per game in a little over 13 minutes a contest last season. Chapman has been a key reserve for Utah the last two seasons and is a former four-star recruit.
According to a report from Tony Jones of The Salt Lake Tribune, the 6-foot-9 Chapman is looking to go somewhere closer to home to be with his family. The only problem is, Utah isn’t pleased that they’re losing a potential starter to transfer, so they’re blocking a lot of Chapman’s options.
From the Jones report:
Transfer restrictions are the worst, as Chapman now has limited options to play closer to home simply because he’s being held hostage by his former school. Hopefully Utah does the right thing and takes away some of these restrictions, but if they don’t, Chapman will still have plenty of suitors on the transfer market.
Chapman will still have two years of eligibility remaining once he sits out a season due to NCAA transfer regulations.
