The NCAA tournament and spring football are wrapped up, but there’s still one important spring date for college athletics across the country.
The NCAA released its member institutions scores for the Academic Progress Rating, which determines potential penalties and postseason ineligibility if scores do not meet certain thresholds.
A score of 930 must be met to avoid penalties and a four-year average of 930 must be maintained to keep postseason eligibility. The system tracks academic progress, retention and graduation rates for the NCAA.
Alcorn State is facing a second-straight season in which it will be ineligible foe the NCAA tournament as their multiyear rate fell from 839 to 777. The Braves are also subject to to the loss of in-season practice time and reduction of games plus the potential for stricter penalties. Florida A&M is also facing Level Three penalties.
Savannah State is the only other program that will face a 2016 postseason ban. The Tigers also face Level Two penalties that will strip them of practice time and a number of games.
Morehead State, Morgan State and North Carolina A&T will face Level One penalties, which removes four hours and one day a week from available practice time during the season.
