Deyonta Davis announced on Tuesday morning that he will be declaring for the NBA Draft and signing with an agent, according to a release from Michigan State.

“I asked Coach Izzo and Coach Guy to do research for me. The information that came back made me decide to enter the draft,” Davis said in a statement. “It was a tough decision, but after talking to my family and coaches, I felt it was the right decision and one I’m fully committed to.”

Davis averaged 7.5 points and 5.5 boards as a freshman, working his way into the starting lineup in 16 of the last 17 games the Spartans played. He’s 6-foot-10 with broad shoulders and long arms, making him the kind of prospect that NBA scouts love, but he’s still raw. Anyone that picks Davis will be getting a prospect more than a player, but he’s enough of a prospect that he’s looking at being a late-lottery pick.

With this decision, Davis becomes Tom Izzo’s first one-and-done player in 15 years, when Zach Randolph bolted for the NBA after one season in East Lansing.
