A Louisiana Tech women’s basketball player publicly responded to rumors on social media on Friday after allegations of a potential pregnancy with resigned head coach Tyler Summitt emerged. After Summitt resigned as the team’s head coach on Thursday for an unspecified “inappropriate relationship” rumors began to spread online that one of his former players could potentially be pregnant.
The target of many of those rumors, redshirt junior guard Ashley Santos, posted on Twitter on Friday with a photo and message.

The 5-foot-11 Santos was one of two players who transferred from Marquette to Louisiana Tech along with Summitt, so the rumors that were spreading often targeted her.
“Ashley’s just an innocent bystander … ,’’ Jose Santos, Ashley’s father, said in a story with USA Today. “People were asking if she was pregnant, so she defended herself. That’s all that it is.”
The 25-year-old Summitt is the son of legendary women’s basketball coach Pat Summitt as Louisiana Tech was his first head coaching job. Summitt was the head coach of the Lady Techsters for two seasons, going 30-31 overall before his resignation.
