Stony Brook has found a new head coach in former Ohio State assistant coach Jeff Boals, NBCSport.com has confirmed.

Boals spent seven seasons as an assistant with the Buckeyes, where he was tasked with doing a lot of defensive preparation for head coach Thad Matta. Before Ohio State, Boals had also spent time at Akron, Robert Morris and Marshall.

The Seawolves are coming off of a NCAA tournament appearance in 2016 as former head coach Steve Pikiell took the Rutgers job in March. Stony Brook has been one of the better mid-major programs in the country in recent years, as they’ve won at least 20 games in six of the last seven seasons.

As an experienced recruiter who also has had a hand the player development of multiple NBA players, Boals could be a solid hire for Stony Brook, especially if he’s able to bring in some talent.
