The team’s head coach is moving to fire Hufnagel who violated the school’s sexual harassment policy. It comes as the university has faced criticism for its handling of substantiated sexual harassment allegations involving an astronomy professor and the dean of Berkeley’s law school. One day after resigning as an assistant coach at Cal due to a sexual harassment scandal involving a female reporter, Yann Hufnagel has been hired as an assistant coach at Nevada, sources confirmed to NBCSports.com.

Hufnagel resignation at California came a day before the results of a review were to be released as the school has taken a lot of recent heat for its handling of sexual harassment claims against high-profile officials. Cal gave Hufnagel a termination notice last month, but he appealed before opting to move on.

“The toxic environment at UC Berkeley has made it impossible for Mr. Hufnagel to rejoin the basketball team he loves, even if he is vindicated in full, as the facts would show,” his attorney, Mary McNamara, said in a statement. “He needs to look out for the student-athletes he coached, as well as his own future.”
At Nevada, Hufnagel will be an assistant coach for head coach Eric Musselman. Hufnagel is noted for being a strong recruiter, as he’s had stops at Harvard and Vanderbilt before being hired at Cal.

Musselman is sure to feel some pressure for making this hire so quickly after Hufnagel’s controversial departure. But if Musselman feels that Hufnagel can help -- and Musselman also feels Hufnagel’s involvement in the allegations weren’t true -- then you can understand why he made the move to hire him.

Along with the hiring of Hufnagel, Nevada also added Ronald Dupree as an assistant coach.
