Louisville added a piece to its roster on Friday as UNC Asheville transfer Dwayne Sutton committed to the Cardinals with an announcement on Twitter.
The 6-foot-5 Sutton will have to sit out the 2016-17 season due to NCAA transfer restrictions as he’s joining the program as a preferred walk-on. He’ll have three years of eligibility remaining after that.
Sutton came on strong at the end of the season, as he was the MVP of the Big South conference tournament, helping the Bulldogs reach the NCAA tournament with a 25-point, 18-rebound performance against Winthrop. A native of Louisville, Sutton averaged 12.8 points and 7.7 rebounds per game while shooting 47 percent from the field as a freshman.
With Louisville taking away a scholarship as part of its self-imposed sanctions, adding Sutton as a walk-on is a nice grab for the Cardinals. After sitting out for a season, Sutton could be the type of player who works his way into the regular Louisville rotation and he’ll add depth in practice for next season.
