Michigan State coach Tom Izzo voted into Basketball Hall of Fame

Michigan State head coach Tom Izzo has been inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, it was announced on Monday.

The veteran coach of the Spartans won a national championship in 2000 as he’s been to seven Final Fours and won seven Big Ten regular season titles since taking over the program in 1995. With a 524-205 career mark, Izzo has taken Michigan State to 19 consecutive NCAA tournaments and also won a record five Big Ten tournament titles. Before becoming head coach at Michigan State, Izzo was an assistant coach with the program for 12 years while also spending four years as an assistant coach at Northern Michigan.

Izzo is joined by Allen Iverson, Shaquille O’Neal, Yao Ming, Sheryl Swoopes and Chicago Bulls Chariman Jerry Reinsdorf in the 2016 Hall of Fame class.

The group will be enshrined on Sept. 9 at the Hall of Fame in Springfield, Mass.
