Minnesota has suspended leading scorer Nate Mason as well as guard Kevin Dorsey and DuPree McBrayer for the rest of the season for their part in a sex tape that was released on social media. The Golden Gophers released a statement from head coach Richard Pitino on the matter.
“After careful and continued consideration, I am suspending Kevin Dorsey, Nate Mason and Dupree McBrayer for the duration of the season,” Pitino said in the statement. “I believe this is the best thing for the basketball program as we strive to build a strong and respectful culture each and every day.”
The Golden Gophers are also missing Carlos Morris, who was previously dismissed by the school in February.
According to a story from ESPN.com’s Myron Medcalf, Mason, Dorsey and McBrayer were in a sex video released on Twitter.
From Medcalf’s story:Nate Mason Sr., Mason’s father, said his son and his two teammates were suspended for the remainder of the season after Dorsey posted a video to his Twitter account Friday that showed the players engaging in sexual activity with women. The Twitter account has since been deleted.
Nate Mason Sr. said Pitino called him before the three players were initially suspended for Sunday’s matchup at Illinois for violating team rules.Minnesota has struggled to an 8-20 record this season and 2-14 mark in the Big Ten. The on-court struggles have been made worse by the off-the-court issues and the Golden Gophers need some good news to close out the season.
