With his swim coach Bob Bowman also the head coach of Arizona State’s swim program, Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps has been in Tempe training ahead of this summer’s Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. Thursday night the 18-time gold medalist joined Arizona State’s “942 Crew” (the student section) for the Sun Devils’ game against Oregon State.
Not only did Phelps take in the game, he became part of the off-court action.
Phelps participated in the student section’s “Curtain of Distraction” routine, with Oregon State’s Stephen Thompson missing two free throws during the sequence shown above. Phelps, accompanied by a couple students, emerged from behind the curtain with some gold medals (not his actual gold medals) around his neck.
The first free thrown routine seemed like something inspired by the movie “Magic Mike,” with Phelps and company using a swimming routine for Thompson’s second foul shot. Good to see that Phelps is enjoying himself.
