For the most part, at this point in the season, I think it’s fair to say that the Player of the Year race has come down to essentially three guys: Oklahoma’s Buddy Hield, Providence’s Kris Dunn and Michigan State’s Denzel Valentine.
It depends, to be honest, on what you value out of a player -- Hield is the best scorer, Valentine is the most important to his team’s offense and Dunn is the best defender -- and if you think Hield’s performance against Kansas last week holds more merit in the discussion than, say, Valentine’s performance against those same Jayhawks from the first week of the season.
That said, there are another three or four guys that, depending on how the season progresses, could end up playing their way into the discussion as well.
