1. Kansas (14-1, LW: No. 1): The Jayhawks followed up their triple-overtime win over Oklahoma with a trip down to Lubbock where they took care of a scrappy Texas Tech team. They’ll get a test on Tuesday when they head to Morgantown to take on West Virginia.
2. Oklahoma (13-1, LW: No. 2): We can’t punish Oklahoma after their loss at Kansas on Monday night. Bill Self has lost nine times at Phog Allen Fieldhouse in 12 years and Buddy Hield and company took the Jayhawks, who just so happen to be the No. 1 team in the country, to triple overtime in that building.
3. Maryland (15-1, LW: No. 3): Road wins in league play are never easy to come by -- right Virginia? -- which is why Maryland shouldn’t be punished for needing a final-second 25-footer from Melo Trimble to knock off Wisconsin in the Kohl Center.
4. Michigan State (15-1, LW: No. 4): Denzel Valentine is back. He came off the bench to play 23 minutes in a blowout win over Penn State on Sunday. The next four games for the Spartans: Iowa, at Wisconsin, Nebraska and Maryland.
5. North Carolina (15-2, LW: No. 5): The Tar Heels got a career-best performance out of Brice Johnson on Monday and a career-best performance out of Isaiah Hicks on Saturday. And they just got Kennedy Meeks back. Those are all very good things for this team.
6. Villanova (13-2, LW: No. 6): The Wildcats knocked off Butler in Hinkle Fieldhouse on Sunday night to cap another perfect week in the Big East. Villanova is now 36-4 in regular season Big East games the last two seasons.
7. Miami (13-1, LW: No. 8): The Hurricanes took care of Syracuse and Florida State at home to start ACC play, but we’ll get a real sense of whether or not the Canes can actually compete for the league’s regular season title this week when they pay a visit to Virginia and Clemson.
8. Xavier (14-1, LW: No. 10): The Musketeers continue to win despite playing without Edmond Sumner, who has yet to return after that nasty head injury he suffered against Villanova.
9. Virginia (12-3, LW: No. 6): A pair of road losses to Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech is not the ideal way to kick off conference play. But as I wrote with Maryland, winning away from home in conference is not an easy thing to do. If the Cavs drop one at home to Miami on Tuesday, it may be a different story.
10. Providence (14-2, LW: No. 7): Yes, Providence lost to Marquette at home on Tuesday. Yes, that is not what one would refer to as a good loss. But they still have Kris Dunn and Ben Bentil is still awesome. Hiccups happen. Let’s see how they bounce back this week.
