Louisville added a graduate transfer to its roster for next season as Penn guard Tony Hicks will finish his career with the Cardinals, a source confirmed to NBCSports.com.

The 6-foot-2 Hicks is sitting out this season after averaging double-figures during his first three seasons at Penn. He’ll have one year of eligibility remaining at Louisville.

With the success that head coach Rick Pitino had with graduate transfers like Damion Lee (Drexel) and Trey Lewis (Cleveland State) this season, it’s easy to see why he would take a chance on a productive player like Hicks.

A native of Chicago, Hicks averaged 13.2 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game last season for the Quakers. A 1,000 point scorer for his career, Hicks opted to sit out this season when Penn changed coaches and hired Steve Donahue. Hicks will graduate from Penn this spring and be immediately eligible next season.

While Hicks might not be as good as Lee or Lewis coming into Louisville, he does give the Cardinals an experienced guard who can step in and be a rotation member right away.
