Two days after Elijah Stewart made Washington State’s Josh Hawkinson pay for challenging a dunk attempt, junior guard Julian Jacobs did the same in USC’s game at Washington.

Jacobs was a key factor for the Trojans while on the floor, keeping the team under control against the Washington pressure while also making some scintillating plays with the ball in his hands. One of those plays was a sensational dunk on Washington freshman Marquese Chriss late in the first half.

With Jacobs on the court USC led by as much as 22, but once he left the game in the second half with a left foot injury the Huskies made their run. Washington cut the margin to three before USC regained some semblance of control over the proceedings, only to have the Huskies make another charge and win 87-85 in one of this season’s wildest games to date.

Hopefully Jacobs’ injury isn’t a serious one, because in addition to being one of the Trojans’ best athletes he is also a steady hand for a young group that has surprised many with its’ 12-3 start to the season. Part of the process of going from also-ran to contender is learning how to close out games like this, and without Jacobs USC couldn’t get the job done in Seattle.
