Happy New Year! We can officially begin the countdown toward Selection Sunday. March is a mere two months away, and conference play is poised to eliminate the contenders from the pretenders.
That said, it’s been an interesting opening two months of the college hoops season. As has been pointed out numerous places, we do not have any true heavyweights dominating the field. As such, expect the bracket to ebb and flow a bit more than usual – even at the top.
Case in point – Kansas sits atop our New Year’s Day bracket, but the Jayhawks are no lock to win a 12th straight Big 12 title. Oklahoma is also a projected No. 1 seed in today’s Field of 68, and Iowa State will push both for league supremacy.
As for the rest of the bracket, it’s a sneak peak at where we stand heading into 2016. Nothing more, nothing less. If we’ve learned anything from results in November and December, it’s that things change – sometimes quickly.
On a final note … Injuries could have an impact on selection and seeding in March. For example: How will the Committee evaluate a team like Wichita State, who lost several games early without point guard Fred VanVleet? If the Shockers evolve into the team we expect, those early losses could largely be disregarded. Time will tell.
The Seed List for today’s bracket can be found at Bracketville.
