LIU Brooklyn picked up a win in its season opener over Loyola (MD) on Monday night as the game ended in an insane back-and-forth final sequence. With the game tied at 68 with five seconds left, Loyola’s Jarred Jones had his shot blocked off of an inbounds pass by LIU Brooklyn big man Jerome Frink.
Frink’s block ended up in the hands of teammate Martin Hermannsson who threw a quick outlet pass to find Joel Hernandez for the buzzer-beating 3-pointer and a 71-68 Blackbird win. Hernandez finished with 15 points to lead the Blackbirds while teammate Aakim Saintil also had 15.
