Lauren Hill Basketball

Members of the Mount St. Joseph’s and Hiram College’s basketball teams take a moment under the basket where Lauren Hill scored last year, during Lauren Hill Tipoff Classic, Saturday, Nov. 14, 2015, in Cincinnati. Hill inspired millions last season by choosing to play college basketball despite an inoperable brain tumor. More than $1.8 million has been raised for pediatric cancer research, with a goal of hitting $2.2 million, her jersey number was 22, over the weekend. The Lauren Hill Tip-Off Classic was held this weekend at the Cintas Center in Cincinnati, an event created to honor the late Lauren Hill.

Hill was a basketball player for Mount St. Joseph, a Division III program in Ohio. She was diagnosed with diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG), a rare and terminal brain cancer, prior to her senior year in high school, but she was determined to play college basketball.

She did, scoring 10 points in four games for Mount St. Joseph, before the disease overtook her in April.
