Ben Howland landed his fourth commitment in the class of 2016 on Wednesday, as 6-foot-10 center Schnider Herard announced that he will be playing his college ball for Mississippi State.

Herard is the No. 34 recruit in the class, according to Rivals. A strong and athletic 6-foot-10 center Herard should be able to contribute immediately on the glass and the defensive end of the floor this season. His offensive game should round into form under Howland as well, as he’s not much more than a dunker at this point in his development.

Herard joins a trio of guards -- Tyson Carter, Eli Wright and Lamar Peters -- in the 2016 class. All three are ranked in the top 100, per Rivals, and that comes on the heels of landing a lauded 2015 recruiting class. The jewel of that class, Malik Newman, is expected to head to the NBA after one season, but even if he does, Aric Holman and Quinndary Weatherspoon will stick around.

In other words, Ben Howland is building something at Mississippi State.

But is that really surprising?
