Grayson Allen rose to fame when he came out of nowhere -- well, relatively -- to spark Duke’s come-from-behind win over Wisconsin in the national title game.

Allen scored eight straight points to ignite a comeback that erased a nine-point second half deficit, finishing with 16 in total. He was the fourth-most most famous freshmen on that roster, but he was the reason they got a ring. Wild.

Which is why it’s relevant to note that if it wasn’t for a pair of duct-taped shoes, Allen wouldn’t have ended up a member of the Blue Devils. Allen was a huge Duke fan despite the fact that he lived three states away in an area that is usually Gator Country.

How did he end up a Duke fan? And why did he need some patched up footwear in order to get to Duke?

I told that story, and more, over at NBC Sports World. You can read it here.
