Florida continued to tap into a new recruiting pipeline as the Gators landed Class of 2016 power forward Dontay Bassett.
The 6-foot-9 Bassett picked Florida over his other finalist of Colorado after taking official visits to both programs during the recruiting process. Bassett is a high school teammate of Florida’s other Class of 2016 prospect, four-star guard Eric Hester, at Oldsmar Christian in Florida. A native of California, a knee injury kept Bassett out of play this July, but he drew solid reviews from high-major coaches as a prospect because of his rebounding and ability to step out and hit the mid-range jumper.
Regarded as a three-star prospect, Bassett’s motor and athleticism should fit what head coach Mike White is looking for in his system.
