Tennessee Wesleyan College has announced that they will add former Tennessee head coach Donnie Tyndall as an associate AD in a volunteer position for the school year.
“I am very excited about my new position at TWC,” Tyndall said in a statement released by the school. “I am thankful for this incredible opportunity. This position will give me the chance to share my experiences with our student athletes and help them launch their careers. My goal is to help our college, our community and our students. I’m very thankful to the entire TWC family for welcoming me in. I can’t wait to get started!”
Tyndall was Kenneth Faried’s coach at Morehead State, then moving to Southern Miss where he spent two seasons -- while winning 57 games -- before making the jump to Tennessee for the 2014-15 season. He was fired this spring after the NCAA began investigating violations that he committed while at USM, which included, among many other things, allegations that Tyndall orchestrated an elaborate plan to commit academic fraud for potential recruits, so detailed that USM would send staff members to the hometown of those players to ensure that IP addresses were correct.
The NCAA came down on Tyndall because one of his former staffers flipped on him. You want to know why snitching is the quickest way to kill a career in college hoops? Because Tyndall went from being a head coach in the SEC, raking in $1.6 million annually, to volunteering as an associate AD at an NAIA school.
