Eric Curry capped off a terrific week for Minnesota head coach Richard Pitino as he became the second commitment the program has landed this week.

Curry is a 6-foot-9 forward from Little Rock, Arkansas, that picked the Gophers over his home state Razorbacks as well as Iowa State. That’s a pretty solid recruiting coup for the younger Pitino. Curry is a three-star recruit currently ranked 141st in the class by Rivals.

This came on the heels of Minnesota keeping one of the state’s most talented youngsters at home, as Amir Coffey, a top 50 guard from Minnetonka, pledged to the Gophers as well. Minnesota has been churning out quite a few talented prospects in recent years, but the likes of Tyus Jones, Rashad Vaughn and Reid Travis all went elsewhere for college. (The Gophers did reel in Jarvis Johnson, but a heart condition resulted in the university revoking his eligibility.)

Keeping that in-state talent in-state is key, particularly with the likes of Gary Trent Jr. and Tre Jones still in the high school ranks. Being able to pull talent from another school’s backyard is as well.

In other words, things are trending in the right direction in Minneapolis.
