Iowa gets four-star 2016 big man Tyler Cook

Iowa pulled in its fourth commitment in the Class of 2016 on Wednesday night as four-star big man Tyler Cook announced his decision on Twitter.

The 6-foot-8, 240-pound Cook is regarded as the No. 82 overall prospect in the Class of 2016 national rankings and he’s a rugged and physical forward who has great natural strength. Cook is teammates on both the St. Louis Eagles and Chaminade High School with Duke commit and five-star prospect Jayson Tatum and he is a solid prospect on his own.

Playing in 25 games with the Eagles in the Nike EYBL this spring and summer, Cook averaged 10.2 points and 5.8 rebounds per game while shooting 60 percent from the field. One are Cook is going to have to improve is his free-throw shooting, as he only shot 46 percent from the charity stripe in EYBL play. Cook is an explosive leaper around the hoop and looks to finish everything with a dunk, which is part of the reason his field-goal percentage is so high.

The Hawkeyes were able to win Cook’s commitment over his other finalist of Florida. Both schools hosted Cook for official visits during the recruiting process with the Iowa visit coming last weekend.

Iowa already owns three commitments in the Class of 2016 prior to Cook as he joins point guard Jordan Bohannon, three-star small forward Cordell Pemsl and three-star power forward Ryan Kriener.
