West Virginia freshman tears ACL

Bolden-Main-91415

West Virginia announced that James ‘Beetle’ Bolden is expected to miss the entire season after tearing the ACL and spraining the MCL in his right knee over the weekend.

“Obviously, our thoughts are with Beetle as he prepares for surgery and begins the rehabilitation process,” said coach Bob Huggins. “Beetle’s a great kid, and I know he will put the time in with [athletic trainer] Randy Meador and come back stronger and hungrier than ever.”

Bolden is a 6-foot-1 freshman point guard from Kentucky that was rated as a three-star recruit by Rivals. He averaged 10.7 points and 3.3 assists during West Virginia’s trip to the Bahamas.

The injury shouldn’t be a major blow to the Mountaineers. The ‘Press Virginia’ system that Huggins implemented last season requires quite a bit of depth, meaning that even without Bolden, West Virginia will still have at least five guards in their rotation.

West Virginia was 25-10 last season, reaching the Sweet 16 before losing to Kentucky.
