Rhode Island picked up a low post threat on Sunday with the addition of Class of 2016 center Mike Layssard, a source told NBCSports.com.

The 6-foot-9, 250-pound Layssard emerged this July during the live evaluation period as he showed a decent set of hands and good touch around the basket. A native of Louisiana, Layssard will have a chance to develop into a good post player the next few years and it should help him greatly to have a college weight room at his disposal. Rivals currently rates Layssard as a three-star prospect.

Layssard is Rhode Island’s first commitment in the 2016 class. With the addition of Layssard and sophomore Andre Berry from the junior college ranks, the Rams will have some massive post players coming in the next two seasons.
