East Carolina added to its 2016 recruiting haul on Friday night as they earned a commitment from three-star guard Shawn Williams. A native of Arkansas, the 6-foot-1 Williams is a scoring guard who is capable of filling it up from all over the floor.
Playing with the Memphis Magic this spring and summer in the adidas Gauntlet, Williams averaged 13.3 points, 2.4 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game while knocking down 32 3-pointers over 12 games.
Williams joins an East Carolina recruiting class that already includes 6-foot-5 guard Elijah Hughes, a New York native who committed to the Pirates in June. Although Williams is a bit of a volume shooter, he can score in bunches and should give the Pirates an additional shooter and creator on the perimeter.
