PHOTO: Mark Gottfried takes a helicopter to visit Smith, Adebayo

There may not be two recruiting targets in the country that are more important to any school than Dennis Smith Jr. and ‘Bam’ Adebayo are to N.C. State.

Smith is arguably the best point guard in the Class of 2016 -- which is saying something given how strong that position is in this class -- and ranked by many in the top five of the class overall. Adebayo is one of the most powerful big men in the class, a freak-of-nature at the four spot that will likely draw comparisons to Montrezl Harrell and the pre-college meltdown Cliff Alexander. He’s a top ten player in the class.

And both are local kids, with Smith going to school in Fayetteville and Adebayo hailing from High Point. Fayetteville is about an hour south of Raleigh while High Point is 90 minutes west.

Easy drives, right?

But why bother driving when you can take a helicopter, amirite????

Because that’s exactly what N.C. State head coach Mark Gottfried did on Wednesday, the first day that coaches are allowed to visit recruiting targets:

Assistant coach Orlando Early got in on the act as well:

That’s one way for him to make an impression.
