Big East releases conference schedule

The Big East has taken some hits in recent years, as the league tries to build an identity in the post-conference realignment era, devoid of the TV money that comes with having a high major football program.

One of the things that the conference does right — that, other than the Big 12, no other high major conference can claim — is that they play a double-round robin during conference play. What that means is that every member of the league plays home and away against every other member of the league. In other words, the Big East never runs into a situation where a team wins a regular season title because their league schedule was, comparatively, easier.

On Tuesday, the conference released that schedule. You can read through it all here.

The league will once again be playing a quintuple-header to celebrate the New Year, only this time the event is schedule for Jan. 2nd. Here’s the schedule:

  • DePaul at Seton Hall, 11:00 a.m.
  • Butler at Xavier, 1:00 p.m.
  • St. John’s at Providence, 3:30 p.m.
  • Marquette at Georgetown, 5:30 p.m.
  • Villanova at Creighton, 10:00 p.m.

Another thing the Big East did right this season was to ensure that the two league favorites — Georgetown and Villanova — were playing on the final day of the regular season. I can’t be the only one hoping that the two programs will be tied for first place entering that night.
