Former Indiana forward Emmitt Holt issues apology to fan base

After being cited for illegal possession of alcohol in late August, forward Emmitt Holt was dismissed from the Indiana program by head coach Tom Crean. Holt, who was suspended four games at the start of the 2014-15 season due to his role in an incident (for which he was not found liable by law enforcement) that resulted in former teammate Devin Davis suffering a serious head injury, was with two teammates at the time of the incident with freshman Thomas Bryant being cited as well.

With Indiana under scrutiny due to off-court issues in the last 18 months it came as no surprise that Holt was dismissed from the team. Sunday afternoon Holt, who will play his sophomore season at Indian Hills CC in Iowa, issued a public apology to the Indiana fan base.

Dear Indiana University Community,

While my dismissal from the Indiana basketball team was a consequence of my own choices, I’m primarily gulity (sic) of doing what most young college students do on any given weekend which is participate in campus life which often includes engaging in the use of alcohol. As a member of the Indiana basketball team I realize that I am held to a higher standard than most college students, coaches and family down and for that I’m truly sorry. I promise to learn from my mistakes and I look forward to pursuing my studies and my basketball career at Indian Hills. I want to thank Coach Crean, the entire staff, my teammates and most of all the great fans of Indiana Basketball for my time I’m Bloomington.

Sincerely,
Emmitt Holt

After spending the upcoming season at Indian Hills, where he’ll play for new head coach and former South Plains (Texas) JC assistant Hank Plona, Holt will have two seasons of eligibility remaining at the four-year program of his choice. Holt averaged 3.6 points and 3.0 rebounds per game in his lone season at Indiana.

Holt was one of three players dismissed from the Indiana program this offseason, with forwards Davis and Hanner Mosquera-Perea being the others.
