With forwards Cordell Pemsl and Ryan Kriener having already committed to the program, Iowa picked up a third verbal commitment in the Class of 2016 Friday morning. Jordan Bohannon, attends Linn-Mar HS in Marion, Iowa, announced via Twitter that he’s decided to play his college basketball for Fran McCaffery at Iowa.

The 6-foot point guard fills a position of need for the Hawkeyes, who currently have two seniors at the position in Mike Gesell and Anthony Clemmons. There’s also a family connection to the school, with Bohannon’s father having played football at Iowa during the early-1980s. However, Jordan is the first of Gordy Bohannon’s four sons to pick Iowa, with Jason and Zach (who began his career at Air Force) both playing at Wisconsin and Matt currently being a senior guard at Northern Iowa.

In an interview with the Cedar Rapids Gazette, Jordan discussed his desire to be a Hawkeye as well as the role he’ll likely fill when he arrives on campus next year.

“I know he really wants me to play the one,” Bohannon said. “When (2017 commit) Connor (McCaffery) comes in we can switch off one and two like kind of like a combo. He’ll guard the bigger guard, and I’ll guard the smaller guard.”

Bohannon said McCaffery praised him for his defense.

“I think I’m really tough-minded,” Bohannon said. “I know I’m undersized; my knowledge makes up for it. I can get everybody in the right spot and make the right passes.”
In addition to Gesell and Clemmons the Hawkeyes will lost forward Jarrod Uthoff and center Adam Woodbury at the end of the 2015-16 season, and they have room for another addition or two from a scholarship standpoint.
