The SEC recruiting arms race of this week continued as Mississippi State landed a commitment from Kentucky native and Class of 2016 shooting guard Eli Wright, the guard confirmed on Twitter.

The 6-foot-4 guard can score off the ball and also handle the ball a little bit as he joins four-star point guard Lamar Peters in Mississippi State’s 2016 recruiting haul. With Wright and Peters in the fold, it gives head coach Ben Howland a pair of play-making guards who can get to the rim and create scoring opportunities. It also gives Howland options in the backcourt if highly-touted five-star freshman guard Malik Newman opts to go pro.

A native of Owensboro, Kentucky, Wright is a grassroots teammate of 2015 Mississippi State commit Aric Holman, who joined the Bulldogs in May after reclassifying. Wright and Holman played together on Hoop Dreams this spring and now they’ll join forces in the SEC. Although the addition of Wright doesn’t quite match the five-star recruiting efforts of Auburn landing Mustapha Heron and Alabama grabbing Terrance Ferguson the last two days, but it’s certainly a solid addition and Wright and Peters should fit in the SEC with their attacking style of play.

Wright is regarded as the No. 125 overall player in the Class of 2016, according to Rivals.
